¡¡¡¡The sea contiguous Taizhou has been the home of numberless mountains. Hence sceneries always combine charms of the sea and the mountain. Since dynasties of Han and Jin, Taoism and Buddhism prevailed. In the wake of the prevalence, temples mushroomed on the lofty mountains as well as down the secluded valleys. These have now become attractions of humanities. With the foundation of PRC, a number of new scenic spots were published. The attractions in the whole territory can be categorized into three types: the mountain scenic sites headed by Mt. Taishan and Mt. Kuocang, including various mountains falling into Huangyan City and Wenling County, which blends natural sceneries and numberless historic site; the second type headed by Linhai Taozhu, including Shepan Island in Sanmen County, Shitang Fishing Village in Wenling County, Dalu Island in Dalu County, and Dachen Island in Jiaojiang City etc., boasting significant potentials for development; and the third type covering scenic sites nearby or in areas around city gates, which have been made into parks already. Of the third type, Mt.Tiantai was recognized as a provincial scenic area by the provincial government in August, 1985 and approved as a key national scenic area in August 1988. The Taozhu scenic site, of which Feng Gengxue in Qing Dynasty kept an account in Records of Caves and Woods in South Taizhou, began to absorb attention in 1980s and new discoveries have been announced. Quite a good deal of scenic sites within the territory is awaiting development.
