China's plastics output rose 12.9% to 22.8m tonne in 2005, thanks to rapid growth in the production of agricultural film, pipes, plastic yarn and weaving products, said Liao Zhengpin, the president of China Plastics Processing Industry Association (CPPIA) on Tuesday, 14 March, 2006.  Agricultural film, pipes, plastic yarn and woven-plastic products grew more than 20% compared with a year earlier, he said.

"The plastics industry will continue to have double-digit growth and China will still need to import large amounts of polymers," Liao added.
